The Holocaust / Shoah: The Why and the How

Through a journey of education and empathy, unravel the systemic tragedy that claimed over 6 million European Jewish lives and explore the reasons behind the Nazi's war against European Jews in this program

Schedule

This class meets Tuesday evenings, 6:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m., January 23, 2024 - February 20, 2024. 

Considered to be the ultimate in human evil, the Holocaust, or Shoah in Hebrew, saw the systematic extermination of more than 6 million European Jews by the German Nazi regime between 1941-1945. By confronting history's darkest moments, we aim to honor the memory of those who suffered and ensure that the lessons of the Holocaust continue to resonate in our lives today.

This program will help provide an understanding of:

  • The reasons behind the Nazi's war against the Jews of Europe
  • The methods used in the attempt to exterminate the Jewish population
  • The gradual implementation of restrictions on Jews in Germany leading up to the effort to accomplish Hitler's longstanding wish to eradicate the Jews of Europe
  • The experience of the Jewish victims, the Nazi perpetrators, and the German and other enablers and bystanders

Who should attend

This class is designed for anyone with a desire to learn more about World War 2 and reflect on one of history’s darkest chapters.

Instructors

  • Paul Chase headshot

    Dr. Paul Chase is a retired lecturer in European and German history and former Dean and Campus Executive Officer at UW-Barron County. Dr. Chase studied European History at Stony Brook University (NY) and Heidelberg and Berlin (Germany). He has traveled throughout Europe with frequent visits to Germany over the past 50 years.

Cancellation Policy

We understand life happens. Should you need to cancel your registration, you may substitute someone to take your place, at any time, at no cost to you. If we cancel a program, we’ll give you your money back.

If your program is 14 or more days away:
You may transfer once to any currently available program – no charge!
If you have to cancel, you will receive a refund, minus a 20% administrative fee.

If your program is less than 14 days away:
You may transfer once to any currently available program, plus a 20% transfer fee.
If you cancel, you will not receive a refund.

If you are registered and do not attend the program, you are responsible for the full fee.
