Training to run a full or half marathon
Running a half or full marathon is just as much mental as is it is physical. This course will tackle both aspects through classroom discussion and weekend training runs. No matter where you start, you will have the tools and support you need to cross the finish line at the Eau Claire Marathon after our 14-week journey together.
Creating a marathon training plan
This course includes a 50-minute lecture covering wellness theory and running-related topics each week, along with a Saturday running session. It is suggested you train outside of the course times as well.

Who should attend
While all adults interested in distance running are welcome, this class is specifically designed for anyone, at any level, interested in running a half or full marathon! This course will provide you with the training tools to help you on this 14-week journey that culminates at the finish line at the Eau Claire Marathon. Enrollment is open only to those 18 and over.

Ben Anderson has been volunteering and participating in endurance sporting events for over 20 years. He derives great joy in enabling others to achieve their personal goals through motion (running, walking, cycling, and swimming). Ben currently works in orthopedic surgery as a nurse practitioner. He has volunteered in an adjunct faculty position with the UW-Eau Claire College of Nursing and Health Sciences for over a decade. Over the past five years, he has volunteered as a teaching assistant in the UW-Eau Claire Distance Running Course. During this time he has completed over 20 marathons, one ultramarathon, and several Half-Ironman triathlons (including one North of the Arctic Circle). Ben currently works as a Nurse Practitioner at Chippewa Valley Orthopedics. He has run over 15 marathons himself and participates in triathlons alongside his daughter.

Kara Johnson is a Physical Therapist at Mayo Clinic Health Systems here in Eau Claire. She has been a Physical Therapist for over 12 years, with a passion for working with runners, athletes, and active individuals, and has obtained further education in this area. Kara is also the mother of 4 young children and she enjoys running with a history of running both competitively and non-competitively.
